Dear all,
Unfortunately, this weekend has not worked out to be as quiet as we had all hoped. As of this morning, Eliza's body was no longer able to tolerate all of the medications, and so instead of leaving her in a coma and weaning her very gradually next week, the doctors had to quickly remove the two sedatives that created the coma and had to add several medications to try to increase her blood pressure.
Since removing the sedatives at 3pm, Eliza's seizures have returned at the rate of one every fifteen minutes, each lasting about two minutes, unless she is stimulated, in which case they are more frequent. The rest of her body seems to be recovering a bit, except for her kidneys, which still aren't producing urine and relieving her excessive swelling as they should. We were also told by telephone a few minutes ago that her heart rate has suffered a dramatic drop, so cardiology is currently conducting their third echocardiogram to try to figure out what is going on.
We're both planning to spend most if not all night at the hospital, and we'd obviously appreciate your prayers at what seems to be a very critical time. We know God can still work a miracle in this little girl's body.
Love,
Daniele (for Sam, Luke, and Eliza)
