Dear family and friends,
Eliza had her MRI this afternoon, and since it ended
up happening so late in the day, the neurologists did
not get to look at it before they left. We expect
that they will look at it in the morning and let us
know what they see then.
As for any concerns about Eliza's sedation lingering
and endangering her chances of being extubated
tomorrow, those appear to have been completely
unfounded. In fact, Eliza began waking up during the
scan and had to be given a second dose of the
sedative. By the time she was wheeled out of the
scan, she was already wide awake (and hopping mad, to
boot!). When she got back to her room and I got her
out of bed, she remained awake, content and very
alert. She was still awake an hour and a half later
when I left. Apparently, her metabolism is amazingly
fast (a sign that her liver is now functioning very
well), and she's burning through medication and food
much more quickly than would be expected.
Assuming all goes well tonight and tomorrow morning,
Eliza is still on track to be extubated tomorrow,
probably around mid-day. For perhaps the first time
during this whole ordeal, various medical folks have
been warning us to expect Eliza to suffer significant
discomfort (from the CPAP, as we mentioned last
night). Please join us in praying confidently to "the
God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all
our affliction" (2Cor 1:3).
