Eliza Update - 2/7 8am

Dear family and friends,

Eliza was weaned from the coma-inducing medication today, and although it has probably not all left her system just yet (she's still heavily sedated), she did begin having seizure activity again. The doctors added another anti-seizure medication which seems to have stopped that activity. Eliza is also now on two blood pressure medications, as her blood pressure has dropped significantly as a result of the coma, and is breathing only with the help of a respirator.

Today, a new specialist at Duke took a look at Eliza's MRI and suggested the possibility of a viral infection, so both Eliza and I have been tested for that; we're awaiting those results in 48-72 hours. Her MRI was also sent by Fed-Ex to California to the top-notch specialist in this sort of thing to see if he has any ideas.
